Protect the Vulnerable

A New Republic of the Heart by Terry Patten is this month’s book.

“Ultimate empowerment is fueling and strengthening another’s ability to trust in an ever existing Intelligence. The distinction between constantly seeking and solidly recognizing (trusting) is the distinction between presuming something is lacking, thus working at getting something, to an engaged practice of reenacting wholeness in our entire affairs.”

I am an empowered and brilliant being. My experience of this rests in my decision to remember, participate and enact this truth. ~Rev. David Ault

Selected quotes from Dr. Ernest Holmes

Thoughts Are Things (1967):

We are all bound, tied hand and foot, by our very freedom; our free will binds us; but as free will enables us to create the conditions which externally limit us, so it can uncreate or dissolve them.

It is not enough to say that we attract what we think; we become what we think, and what we become we attract.

Words That Heal Today (1949):

It is only when we view life from the standpoint of an expanding soul, destined forever to exist somewhere, that we can make either sense or sanity out of human experience. If we view life from the standpoint that each is an evolving soul, destined to live forever somewhere, we shall see that in the long run life must return to us that which we reflect into it.

It’s Up to You! (1968):

One of the greatest stumbling blocks in any man’s spiritual advancement is dishonesty; the refusal to honestly face an idea if that idea happens not to please him. This comes in part from the human tendency to take the line of least resistance, whether it be in our physical endeavors or in the operation of our mind. Confronted with an idea that repudiates one we have held for years, we go far out of our way, entirely around the idea, to keep from being compelled to analyze and possibly to absorb it. Our cry is: “I do not like to believe that!”

Back of this is the fear that an idea may be forced into our consciousness which will uncover to us our own responsibility.

Translating Heartbreak into Action

Today The Divine as me fully embraces the human as me. ~Soni Cantrell-Smith

The world is beginning to realize that it has learned all it should through suffering and pain. Surely there can be no Intelligence in the Universe that wishes man to be sick, suffer pain, be unhappy and end in oblivion. Surely if God or Universal Intelligence is imbued with goodness, then It could not ordain that man should ultimately be other than a perfect expression of Life (Science of Mind-page107).

Why is it necessary that the soul shall undergo the experiences of evolution? Individuality means spontaneity, self-choice, volition, reality, creative ability. If we were to assume individuality, and volition, without law to bring its choice into fruition, we would have a dream, a hallucination, a fantasy. Individuality presupposes choice, which presupposes the possibility of bringing choice into actual experience. Only through experience can it come full-orbed into conscious unity with the Divine Mind (Can We Talk to God page 47).

The world likes action, change. Action is life. Alertness is the word. Always be alert. There must be mental alertness before there can be physical activity. Act as though things were happening even though they may not appear to be. Keep things moving and soon you will have to avoid the rich. (Creative Mind and Success-page 41)

Creating Meaningful Conversations

As I listen with an open heart and soft eyes, I find Truth has unexpected dwelling places… until I remember there is only One of us.

We must continually remind ourselves of the power of the Word, and of our ability to use it. We must know that Truth produces freedom because Truth is freedom. SOM p189-3

…the Universe exists for the expression of Spirit, and man exists for self-expression, because he is the expression of Spirit. SOM p270-3

The way to proceed is to begin right where we are. It is not scientific to attempt to begin somewhere else. One who understands the systematic use of the Law will understand that he is where he is because of what he is, but he will not say “I must remain where I am, because of what I am.” Instead, he will begin to disclaim what he appears to be. As his statements release wrong subjective tendencies, providing in their place a correct concept of life and Reality, he will automatically be lifted out of his condition; impelling forces sweeping everything before them, will set him free, if he trusts in Spirit and the working of the Law. SOM p283-3

Different Worldviews

Today, I align myself with Universal Wholeness. In the awareness that I am one with the Divine, I am one with all people everywhere. I am in unity with my neighbor. And so it is.

We should give of ourselves in love and in service to others, in a spirit of generosity and good-fellowship. To refuse to give is to refuse to receive, for everything moves in circles. Real giving is the livingness of the self. A kind word, a thoughtful act, perhaps just a smile, can help lighten the burdens of others. (Holmes, Ernest, (1972) Ideas for Living, page 55).

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” — is the basic guide for establishing our attitudes and actions toward others. Every one of the ten world’s great living religions embraces its universal truth. (Curtis, Donald, (1963) Daily Power for Joyful Living, page 23.1).

“…the ingenuity of the Religious Science Church (now Centers for Spiritual Living) lingers on, particularly in its sense of equity….” Jennings, Jessie Ed., The Essential Ernest Holmes) page 4).

Compassion and caring are the ties that bind us together in mutual understanding and in the unified attempt to uncover the Divinity in each other. Compassion is the gentlest of all human virtues, for it is the outpouring of the Divine giving-ness through all. (A Holmes Reader on Practical Wisdom (1996). Page 61).

Heart-Centered Social Engagement

I see the conditions in our world that are a call for prayer and action! Together in Oneness we join hands, hearts, and minds to co-create a more, kind, loving, and abundant life for all!

Power – The Power that holds a grain of sand in place is the same Power that holds the planets in their places. There is nothing big or little or hard or easy as far as the Power is concerned. It is the same Power working in and upon everything. This is the Power we use. (SOMM, March 2002, p. 36)

Heart-Centered – The marvelous teaching of Jesus is not quite so soft as it sounds. His words are statements of the great laws of cause and effect; laws that produce justice without judgment — the inevitable result of laws that work with mathematical certainty.   You cannot love and hate at the same time, nor can anyone else. Therefore, this man of wisdom said that light overcomes darkness. He did not say that darkness overcomes light. (This Thing Called You, 1948, p. 21.3)

Active Love – When we let the love that is within us go out to the God who is in all people and the Divine Presence that is in all things, then we are loving God with all our heart and with all our soul and mind, because we are recognizing that the Spirit within us is the same Spirit that we meet in others. This is loving our neighbors as ourselves. (365 Science of Mind (2001), p. 34.1)
